Overall Purpose: To work with scientific researchers to care for the health and welfare of a breeding colony of rhesus macaques, including daily husbandry duties such as cleaning and feeding, and maintaining accurate records. All work is governed by the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act.
Key Responsibilities:
- Check health and welfare of the animals.
- Address welfare needs, including habituation and training.
- Maintain cleanliness in animal rooms.
- Record keeping.
- Read and adhere to SOPs and risk assessments; be willing to work overtime to cover animal requirements.
Person Requirements:
Education / Qualifications / Training
- Essential: Five GCSEs at grade C or above.
- Desirable: Computer literacy.
Previous Work Experience
- Essential: Working and adhering to instructions/protocols/processes.
- Desirable: Basic animal husbandry; Good communication skills; Attention to detail; Genuine interest in animal welfare; Basic computer skills; Experience working to SOPs; Experience with computerised record keeping; Experience working as part of a team.
