Visualisation Software Engineering Apprentice – Join the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) at the Hartree Centre. You’ll develop interactive graphics and immersive visualisations that make complex data clear, compelling and accessible.

Contract Type: Fixed‑Term, 48 months

Salary: £24,340 per annum (rising annually)

Hours: Full‑time, 37 hours

Training Provider

Manchester Metropolitan University – Digital and Technology Solutions Professional Degree Apprenticeship (in‑person, one day a week)

Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities

  • High‑level demonstrations to VIPs using cinema presentation rooms
  • Application development for VR and AR platforms
  • Core software engineering with object‑oriented programming (OOP) mentoring
  • 3D modelling of scientific data for public engagement
  • Technical documentation and reporting

Entry Requirements

  • GCSE Maths and English (Grade 4/C or above)
  • Minimum 104 UCAS tariff points at A Level (x 3 subjects grades BCC or above) or equivalent Level 3 qualification
  • Maths and/or Computing Science at A Level or equivalent
  • Basic health and safety awareness
  • Enthusiasm and motivation for learning
  • Strong interest in technology, computing and scientific research
  • Awareness of computer operating systems
  • Experience with any programming language
  • Problem‑solving enthusiasm for game engines and 3D modelling technologies
