An established civils and groundworks contractor is seeking an experienced Works Manager to take responsibility for the delivery and commercial performance of multiple projects across the South East. This role will suit a hands-on operator with a strong commercial mindset, capable of managing 5-6 live projects at any one time, maintaining programme control, and supporting both site and commercial teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Weekly visits to all live sites to review programme, progress and performance
- Overall responsibility for the coordination and delivery of multiple civils and groundworks projects
- Ensuring weekly progress reports, dropline updates and Friday packs are completed and issued to clients
- Working closely with the commercial team to assist in pricing and agreeing variations
- Liaising with site and commercial teams to ensure monthly applications are claimed to the correct measure
- Ensuring all new projects are correctly resourced with labour, plant and materials from commencement
- Assisting with project forecasting and maintaining accurate forecasts throughout the project lifecycle
- Attending monthly application reviews with Directors to assess progress, costs and forecast against actuals
- Creating construction programmes and maintaining updates where contractually required
- Providing hands-on problem solving and support when site management encounter issues
- Attending client meetings and pre-start meetings as required
About You
- Proven experience as a Works Manager within civils and groundworks
- Strong commercial awareness, with experience supporting applications, variations and forecasting
- Comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously
- Confident communicator, able to deal directly with clients and senior stakeholders
- Organised, proactive and solutions-focused
- Flexible to travel across Kent, Essex, Cambridge and London
