Please note that we are looking for a mix of locations for our grid connection engineer roles.UKNS is hiring X2 roles; one is remote, and the other is based in the Bishops Stortford offices. We are flexible on working patterns and locations, so we can offer our people family-friendly working patterns and locations.
Requirements
We areseeking an enthusiastic and innovative Grid Connections Engineer to join ourindustry leading team of grid experts.
The core ofthis exciting role is to support our customers in getting connected to the grid– from EV charging hubs at Low Voltage right up to the largest UK data centreswho measure their connections in Gigawatts.
This is arole that combines technical detailed power systems engineering with a customerfocused drive to deliver outstanding and innovative solutions.
On thetechnical side you will be using cutting edge power systems modelling software(ETAP, SINCAL and IPSA) to model high voltage and extra high voltage networksto identify points of connections, as well as any required reinforcements. Youwill combine this expert network knowledge with our in house designed andmanufactured control systems to offer solutions that are not available anywhereelse.
What you’llbe doing
- Using power systemsmodelling software to identify electrical capacity (thermal, voltage andfault level) on distribution and transmission networks
- Create and maintain strongrelationships internally and with customers, DNOs, IDNOs and ICPs
- Using our in-housedesign and manufactured grid control systems, design innovative gridconnection solutions for our customers
- Manage the end-to-endgrid connections process and provide expert support for our customers
- Prepare engineeringdrawings and technical reports (grid compliance, single line diagrams)
- Attended industryevents to represent UK Networks Services
- Assessing connectionsoffers for technical, regulatory and commercial compliance and risk
What we\’relooking for
- Significantexperience in LV & HV electrical distribution network design
- Strongbackground in the technical DNO connection offer process (using power systemssoftware or other tools to identify and asses points of connection)
- Experienceof both demand and generation connections, HV and EHV
- Detailedknowledge of the connections processes and associated standards (CCCMS, ECCR)
- Experienceof NERS design approval process with DNO/IDNO/ICP an advantage
- Experienceusing power systems tools (WinDebut, IPSA, ETAP, SINCAL, ELEK Cable HV, ELEKSafe Grid, AutoCAD or their equivalents)
- Ability tocommunicate well with senior management and customers alike
- Strongtechnical and mathematical skills
- Ability toself-start and work without direct supervision
- Ability tostructure work, record keep and support company certification by working withgood governance.
- Right towork in UK – We are unable to sponsor applicants for employment visa status.
- Ability totravel: Full, clean driving licence
Key Qualifications
- Degree inElectrical Engineering (HNC/HND considered)
- ProfessionalRegistration an advantage (IEng/CEng)
- IOSHWorking safety or managing safely an advantage
- Formaltraining in power systems modelling an advantage
Please notethis role will require some business travel within the UK for client and sitemeetings, where of course all costs (travel, accommodation subsistence) arepaid.
