The Press and Campaigns Officer role will support communicating UKHospitality’s priorities across trade and national media, as well as through owned digital channels. This role is a six-month fixed-term contract.
They will develop press releases, media comments and other articles to ensure UKHospitality’s core campaigning messages are front and centre. Acting as the first point of contact for media enquiries, they will coordinate interviews and build positive relationships with journalists to ensure accurate and impactful coverage.
The role also supports our member communications by amplifying our media coverage and campaign work through our social media channels, website and member communications. They will work closely with the marketing team to support these efforts.
The ideal candidate will have at least two years’ experience in a Press Officer or similar communications role, with excellent written communication skills. They will have a passion for all things news, politics and a strong knowledge of the changing media and campaigns landscape.
Job responsibilities
- Supporting the delivery of relevant and timely output to communicate UKHospitality’s policy priorities through the media (trade and national), and owned digital channels.
- Developing press releases, comments and placed articles across target outlets, with UKHospitality’s key messages front and centre.
- Act as the first port of call for media enquiries, and working with the team to craft responses and co-ordinating interview opportunities.
- Developing positive and constructive relationships with key media contacts.
- Support our campaign work, through the development of newsletter, website and social media content.
- Lead the promotion of our secured media coverage on social media channels.
- Lead the analysis of our media coverage and reporting into the wider team.
- Oversee UKHospitality’s media database and monitoring.
- Assist UKHospitality’s events, through ensuring media attendance and comms support.
- Assisting the team in providing absence/holiday cover for the Digital Marketing Assistant.
Knowledge, skills and experience
- Degree level education, or relevant work experience.
- At least 2+ years’ experience in a Press Officer role or similar.
- Excellent written communication skills and ability to write in different styles.
- Experience building and maintaining relationships with journalists.
- Strong understanding of the UK media landscape.
- Experience using CMS, specifically Wordpress.
