Personal Assistant for gentleman in Wymondham - up to 20 hours per fortnight @ Β£14 p/h

Job Purpose:

Are you caring, patient, and proactive? Would you like to make a real difference in someone's life? We are looking for a dedicated Personal Assistant to support an active 37 year-old man with severe learning difficulties and complex communication needs to live a full and meaningful life in his own home.

You will be part of a small team providing consistent and person-centred care. The role involves supporting him with daily routines, personal care, household tasks, food preparation, and enjoying everyday activities both at home and in the community.

We're looking for someone who is calm, encouraging, and able to build positive relationships through empathy, patience and good humour.

Location: NR18 - Wymondham

Main Duties:

  • Provide one-to-one, person-centred care and support in the client's own home.
  • Assist with daily routines including washing, dressing, and personal hygiene.
  • Support with food preparation and mealtimes.
  • Maintain a clean and safe home environment.
  • Engage in activities and outings that are enjoyable to the client.
  • Provide emotional reassurance, calm de-escalation, and distraction techniques when needed.
  • Engage and encourage client at every opportunity.
  • Work collaboratively within a small team to ensure consistence and continuity of care.

Person specification:

Essential:

  • Knowledge and experience of working with people who have Severe Learning Disabilities and Autism
  • Experience of working with people who have complex and challenging behaviours
  • First Aid & Epilepsy knowledge
  • To always be attentive and alert regarding client's safety
  • Willingness to participate in relevant training (e.g. First Aid and Epilepsy)
  • To hold a clean Full UK Driving Licence
  • To always respect client's dignity
  • Ability to work as part of a team and report regularly to a Team leader
  • To have high standards of hygiene

Desirable:

  • Physically active and have a good sense of humour
  • Basic food preparation & cooking skills
  • Be able to complete everyday chores

Summary terms and conditions:

  • The rate of pay for this position is Β£14 per hour (between the hours of 8am – 10pm) and Β£12.71 per hour (between the hours of 10pm – 8am)
  • Hours and times of work: up to 20 hours per fortnight to include one night shift, as agreed.
  • The annual holiday entitlement for this position will be equivalent to the work I would normally expect to be done during 5.6 consecutive weeks.

The post is subject to the following:

  • A satisfactory enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check, the cost of which will be covered by the employer.
  • Satisfactory references from two referees, one of which must be your current or last employer.
  • Completion of a satisfactory probationary period of 6 months.
