We are looking for a companion personal assistant for M in Wimbledon.
About M: M is an engaged, active and independent 74‑year‑old man who enjoys many activities such as going to galleries and concerts, reading, giving presentations about his condition to various organisations, and socialising. He remains fit and active by walking the dog, doing pilates, shopping and household activities. M is a gentle, intelligent and engaging person, who brings richness to his friendships.
Why M is looking for a PA: M has primary progressive aphasia (logopenic variant), which is a language‑led rare dementia that affects his ability to find the right word and at times, his short‑term memory. M is in the early stages and is maintaining his independence well. M would greatly enjoy going to galleries in London but has lost some confidence about navigating public transport. He does not have personal care needs.
Who would be right for this role? M is looking for a personal assistant who would enjoy being alongside M for these types of activities. M's ideal personal assistant will be sensitive to his communication needs and see the person, not the condition. Specialist speech and language therapy training (conversation partner training) will be provided to his PA.
Requirements of the role: Initially, we seek a personal assistant for 4 hours a day, three days a week, which may increase in the future. The intention is to agree on the same three days a week, but some flexibility would be helpful. We will need two positive references and a clear DBS check.
Key Responsibilities:
- Social + Leisure activities
- Support to remain independent
Self Employed.
