An opportunity as a personal assistant has become available to support a 15-year-old boy to live an independent, personal, and sociable life.

Location: Old Catton, Norwich

Details: These duties may vary from day to day.

Personal and Domestic duties:

  • Take care of and support the young boy at the family home, and at other locations.
  • Prompt and support to eat and drink.
  • Occasionally support with toileting and any clothing changes when necessary.

Social duties:

  • Go out and about in the local community, getting involved in activities that he enjoys such as bowling, crazy golf, shopping, and bottle flip at the local park.
  • Activities can also be carried out at home, such as crafts, preparing/cooking food, and playing board games and digital games.

Person specification:

  • Experience working with young people with a learning disability.
  • Ability to confidently use technology such as an iPad.
  • Confident to go out into the local community.
  • Confident in using public transport.
  • Use of de-escalation techniques.
  • Reliable.
  • Flexible.
  • Able to swim.
  • Knowledge of sign language.
  • Enjoys music, cooking, and crafts.

Summary terms and conditions:

  • The rate of pay for this position is £12.38 per hour includes weekends and bank holidays.
  • Hours and times of work: Flexible Hours Mutually Agreed to a maximum of 104 hours per year. 5-6 hours a session every few weeks.
  • Other duties will be discussed if/when deemed appropriate but everything that will be expected will be explained prior to acceptance of the position.
  • The annual holiday entitlement for this position will be equivalent to the work I would normally expect to be done during 5.6 consecutive weeks.
  • Access to free training for employed workers.
  • If this job requires Manual Handling, Handling of hazardous chemicals and/or Food Handling you will be required undertake annual training.

The post is subject to the following:

  • A satisfactory enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check, the cost of which will be covered by the employer.
  • Satisfactory references from two referees, one of which must be your current or last employer.
  • Completion of a satisfactory probationary period of 6 months.
