A calm & confident PA is required to provide opportunities of play and learning for my 17 year old son who has a diagnosis of Down Syndrome and Autism with associated learning delays. His speech is delayed so he communicates with a mixture of Makaton signs, visual resources, and speech. The job would give him opportunities to enjoy his favourite activities both in and away from the home.
Main Duties:
- Communicate and support his time, activities and communication
- Accompany him in the local area and his favourite places
- Interact with him using suitable means and methods, such as play and reading, to make him happy and comfortable
Essentials:
- Calm and confident demeanour
- Resilience; managing anxiety and some challenging behaviours
- Receive training; including Makaton, Down Syndrome and Autism
- Show initiative and flexibility
- Be sensitive to his needs and feelings
- Communicate well with family and provide feedback to parents
- Attend work punctually and consistently
- Maintain confidentiality at all times
- Experience or desire working with children with additional needs
Skills:
- To be able to work unsupervised
- Good communication and listening skills
- Show initiative
- To be able to build self-esteem while ensuring a safe and warm atmosphere/ambiance
Motivation:
- To enjoy working with young people.
Other:
- To hold a current and satisfactory enhanced DBS check or be willing to complete one.
