Job Description
Job Title: Personal Assistant/ Support Worker
Outline of role: To provide high-quality, person-centred support for an individual with profound learning disabilities, enabling them to live safely, comfortably, and with dignity in their own home.
Support will focus on:-
- Personal care
- Health and medical needs
- Daily living activities, including eating and drinking.
- Participation in community life
- Ensure the home environment is clean, safe, and comfortable.
All support must be delivered in line with UK legislation and best practice guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow individual care plans, risk assessments, and health protocols.
- Assist with personal hygiene, and dressing.
- Support with medication and epilepsy management.
- Promote independence and choice wherever possible.
- Encourage individual to engage in preferred activities and community outings
- Record health information and report concerns promptly to the manager and healthcare professionals.
1. Behavioral & Emotional Support
- Provide reassurance and calming strategies when the individual experiences anxiety or distress.
- Recognise behavioural cues and respond appropriately using positive behaviour support techniques.
- Encourage engagement in preferred activities (e.g. listening to music, sensory activities).
2. Communication & Engagement
- Use knowledge of the person’s non-verbal communication and behavioural cues to meet their needs.
- Support social inclusion and community access, while managing risks and triggers.
- Promote dignity, respect, and choice at all times.
3. Safeguarding & Legal Compliance
- Work in line with the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and Equality Act 2010.
- Safeguard the individual from harm, abuse, or neglect.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to GDPR and CQC standards.
4. Record Keeping
- Maintain accurate daily notes, medication records, and incident reports.
- Ensure risk assessments and care plans are followed and updated as directed.
5. Teamwork & Professional Development
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, healthcare professionals, and family members.
- Attend mandatory training (epilepsy, first aid, safeguarding, moving & handling, behaviour management).
- Engage in supervision and continuous professional development.
