Bank/casual Personal Assistant required to support a female aged 62 years old in West Pelton. I am 62, enjoy crafting and shopping, history, and need support to get out and about. I am an animal lover and all things 80s. I have multiple chronic conditions and limited mobility. Patience and understanding of cognitive decline (not dementia) is a must. My short-term memory is terrible at times, especially when anxious. Processing is a big problem for me too. The GP is aware and we are working through this, also supported by the aligned mental health team at the GP surgery. This is causing me lots of problems in my head and affecting my mental well-being, so you will need to be understanding.

Hours/Wage: Various hours to be my bank, casual PA. Cover holidays, £13.50 per hour. I would be happy with fewer hours whilst my PA is away. Mainly it is to cover my wonderful PAs who job share. Hours are to cover sickness or unforeseen circumstances and various days pre-arranged. Please note this is bank/relief hours only, not a permanent job. I have a well-established PA who would be willing to show you the ropes.

Duties: Various but including some of these at different times depending on my needs:

  • Assist with personal care when I am unable to move.
  • Shower help if required.
  • Help with hair, blow dry, and upper body dressing.
  • Make the bed/change the bed as required (weekly).
  • Put washing on the airer and fold up if necessary.
  • Carry things for me, to my mobility car or garden, to one room or another.
  • Essential support for my mobility scooter to go up or down if needed.
  • Come shopping with me as my reach is not always good in the shops or when I meet friends.
  • Tidy sofas, pick up dropped things.
  • Medication and appointment reminders.
  • Some help with opening things or chopping vegetables etc so I can cook independently.

Additional Requirements/Information: I prefer someone who has worked in a care setting, empathetic, and an understanding of depressive disorders is a must! Someone with a good sense of humour. I don’t like people rushing around due to balance and cognitive issues. I want to remain independent, so support is required, not anyone taking responsibility for my life. I have recently had a life-changing experience, so can get tearful at times. I have poor concentration at times, so patience is a must. I have a motability car, so unless you live in the West Pelton area, a car driver would be required. Visits to local shops with me as I can’t take my scooter in and out of the boot. Setting up a mobility scooter is part of the job on some days. Other help as required. Light duties. References are essential from your current or last employer. Very important: I have a small dog, so a dog-friendly person is needed. I need someone who is not going to expect me to put her in another room. I get extremely anxious when people are intolerant of my dog. We live here and she has full run of our home and garden.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Meal Preparation
  • Personal Care
  • Domestic Care
  • Social + Leisure activities
  • Support to remain independent
  • Training
  • Essential PA Guide
  • Hand hygiene
  • Transportation
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Own personal car
  • Medical Continence Care
