Personal Assistants support people to live well. They provide the right support at the right time to help others to live their best lives. Is this you? Do you want a job that is rewarding and fulfilling?
The aim of the job is to provide support and assistance to a young woman, who lives within the family home, with her health and care needs, physical, postural, and visual difficulties. The young woman is a permanent wheelchair user and has Epilepsy. She is very sociable, friendly and has good communication skills. She enjoys and participates in weekly work leisure, social and learning activities.
You will be employed by the young woman and become part of a small established team, providing 2:1 support for all moving and handling tasks. Additional 2:1 sleepover support may also be required for 2/3 days of (UK) annual family holiday, short break or a monthly sleepover.
As a Personal Assistant you will provide support and assistance to enable the employer to be safely involved and as independent as possible. Tasks include:
- Moving and Handling
- Personal Care incl. Stoma Care
- Administering of medication
- Social support
- Support and assistance in the Hydrotherapy pool (2:1 support/weekly session)
- Support to use technology e.g. IPad/IPhone
The Right Person: The young woman is looking for an experienced Female Personal Assistant who is friendly and approachable with a good sense of humour and a can-do, encouraging attitude. They must be reliable, trustworthy, and punctual. It is vital that you have excellent communication and listening skills and have the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. A positive attitude and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations are essential. The ability to undertake moving and handling duties throughout the day is a requirement of the role. Moving and handling experience is required, although training will be provided. As there is the use of a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle, a driver is required. Non-smoker/Non-vaper.
Experience: Personal Assistant/Support worker - Minimum of 12 months.
The Hours: This post is for 30-37 hours per week. Shifts to be varied, flexible, worked on a rota, full or half days across Monday to Sunday. Days and times are to be arranged with the employer. Shifts required are days, afternoons, evenings and alternate weekends.
The Rate of Pay and Benefits: £15.00 per hour and £87.20 per sleepover (11pm - 7am). Any hours which require you to be awake and working during a sleepover would revert to at least National Minimum Wage. Time and a half paid when working on a Bank Holiday. 5.6 weeks (pro-rata) paid holidays per year. The post is subject to a DBS Check and satisfactory references. The cost of the DBS check will be met by the Employer.
