I am looking for a reliable, friendly and practical Personal Assistant to help me maintain my health, independence and support me with day-to-day living.

Location: Norwich, NR2

About Me: I live with multiple genetic and long-term invisible disabilities. As a result, I require support to maintain my current level of functioning and prevent any flares or relapses. I spend a significant amount of time resting and may not always be able to actively direct tasks. I am therefore looking for someone who is comfortable working independently, uses their initiative and is able to get on with tasks without requiring constant supervision. The role is based in a calm and quiet home environment, so it is important that the successful applicant is respectful of the need for rest and low-noise surroundings when working.

Job Details: This is a part-time position for 8 hours per week. Days and times can be discussed and agreed with the successful applicant.

About the Role: The role involves a mixture of household support, shopping, errands, organisation and meal preparation. Duties will vary depending on my needs from week to week and will include:

  • Weekly food shopping and putting shopping away
  • Household cleaning, including vacuuming, mopping, dusting, kitchen and bathroom cleaning
  • Changing bed linen and assisting with laundry tasks
  • Taking household rubbish and recycling out
  • Assisting with organising and decluttering areas of the home
  • Meal Prep/Batch Cooking
  • Collection of Prescriptions and posting medical test parcels
  • Supporting me to access the community
  • Other practical household tasks that help me maintain my independence

My support needs can fluctuate over time, so the balance of tasks may change from week to week. There may be periods where support is focused primarily on household tasks and errands, and other periods where additional assistance is required depending on my health and circumstances.

Food Preparation: Due to extensive food intolerances and allergies, most meals need to be prepared from scratch using specific ingredients. I am looking for someone who is confident in the kitchen and happy to follow recipes and dietary requirements. You do not need to be a professional cook, but you should be comfortable preparing simple homemade meals from scratch and batch cooking.

Transport: I live in a city-centre flat where parking is not available for day-to-day visits. Applicants should therefore be able to travel to work on foot, by bicycle or by public transport, or otherwise make their own parking arrangements if travelling by car. The weekly food shop involves walking to and from a nearby supermarket (approximately 0.7 miles each way) and carrying groceries back to the property, so this task will also need to be completed on foot rather than by car. A full UK driving licence and access to a car would be desirable, as I need support accessing the community on a weekly or fortnightly basis. When travelling with me, my Blue Badge can be used to park outside my property while collecting or dropping me off. However, this parking arrangement is only available when accompanying me and should not be relied upon for day-to-day travel to work.

Person Specification:

  • Reliable, trustworthy and dependable
  • Kind, friendly and respectful
  • Comfortable working independently and using your initiative
  • Organised and practical
  • Physically able to carry shopping and undertake household cleaning tasks
  • Confident preparing homemade meals from scratch
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing needs
  • Respectful of a quiet home environment

Summary Terms and Conditions:

Expenses: You will be reimbursed for any reasonable and pre-approved expenses incurred in the course of carrying out your duties. Where a personal vehicle is used to transport a service user and mileage reimbursement is to be claimed, this arrangement must be authorised in advance, documented within the service user's care plan, and processed in accordance with the organisation's payroll procedures.

Holiday Entitlement: Employees and workers in the UK are entitled to a minimum of 5.6 weeks' paid annual leave per year on an FTE basis. Part-time roles will be calculated pro rata. Self-employed individuals are not entitled to statutory paid holiday leave, and any time off is unpaid unless they make their own financial arrangements.

Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS): This post is subject to a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which will be arranged and paid for by the employer. Where children under the age of 18 live in the household, the successful applicant will need an Enhanced DBS check that includes both the Adults' and Children's Barred Lists. In these circumstances, employment cannot commence within the family home until the DBS clearance has been received.

References: This post is subject to satisfactory references from two referees, one of which must be your current or last employer.

Probationary Period: This post is subject to a three-month probation period. The three-month probationary period gives both you and your employer the opportunity to ensure the role is a good fit, identify any training or support needs, and settle into the working relationship.

Mandatory Training: Where the duties of this role include food preparation, moving and handling, the use of hazardous substances (including household cleaning products), or the handling of medication, you will be required to complete any relevant mandatory training and competency assessments.
