A personal assistant is to enable this young woman to live a normal, fulfilling life and to be as independent as possible. Specific duties will be determined by her and her family. She enjoys a wide range of activities, so we would like her Personal Assistants to be fun, enthusiastic, energetic, conscientious, tolerant, dedicated, caring, and have the ability to talk! You will be based in her lovely home and will help her acquire and maintain independent skills. You will also spend some time out in the community supporting her various activities. A positive attitude and a gentle approach are essential.
Main duties:
- Have an understanding and knowledge of an up-to-date epilepsy care plan, and know what procedures have to take place in an emergency.
- Have knowledge of rescue medication, epilepsy medication, and supplements and how to administer them.
- Assist with her personal care – washing, skin care, dressing etc. This will include intimate personal care such as helping her use the toilet, expected to be done sensitively and without embarrassment.
- Responsible for good record keeping around well-being and communication between the support team and family.
- Be flexible around availability including holiday cover, sickness cover, and emergency cover.
- Be available/flexible to support her on her own holidays, with or without family members for a week per annum.
- Be responsible for informing her family/senior PA of any medications that require reordering.
- Have a clean driving license.
- Positions involve day times, evenings, weekends and day shifts, which can change depending on fluctuating needs.
- Assist her to carry out routine daily domestic activities e.g., making bed, keeping her home clean and tidy.
- Assist her during daily Occupational therapy/Speech therapy sessions (training will be given) and record these sessions.
- Partake in social and leisure activities, such as walking, visiting museums, art galleries, hydrotherapy swimming, going to the theatre, and eating out.
- Assist her in carrying out any chosen activity, whether inside or outside the home.
- Help her use her iPad and Allora (communication aid) and keep up to date with communication aids and training methods.
- Training and mentoring of new part-time staff, shadowing and training on the job.
- Maintain the upkeep of the car, inside and out, including servicing etc.
- Ensure personal belongings are kept safe at all times.
- Ensure the risk assessment and PCP are adhered to and updated regularly.
- Assist and manage a healthy lifestyle, particularly her dietary requirements and exercise needs.
Organisational Responsibilities:
- Keep written records as required in diaries, and ensure that all relevant information is communicated to appropriate people in a professional and timely manner.
- Participate in identifying your own training programme in a constructive and positive way.
- Undertake such other reasonable tasks as required from time to time.
