I am in my 40s with autism and have a learning disability. I love life and enjoy living in my own home. I would like someone to work with me to help me remain independent.
Responsibilities include:
- Help to manage finances and bills, read material and interpret most written information.
- Assist with prompts to maintain self-care and assistance as necessary (e.g., taking me to the barber).
- Help to keep my property clean and tidy and assist as necessary (e.g., cleaning).
- Assist with laundry: organising loads, taking them to/from laundrette, ensuring they are dry and put away in the right place.
- Assist in engaging in events and activities and in getting to and from events.
- Help with a weekly shopping budget and controlling spending when food shopping, prompting to select healthy options and ensure I have enough food for the week.
- Assist with putting away shopping, managing sell-by dates and food hygiene.
- Assist with communicating verbally over the phone and in person when there is an issue (e.g., a problem with my phone bill).
- Help with keeping safe online and completing online forms, writing, and reading emails/letters.
- Assist with cooking, knowing the cooking time and heat temperature.
To meet my needs, I need someone with excellent communication skills who understands my autism so that we can use strategies to help me say the right words.
Schedule: I would like someone to help me on Monday, Tuesday all day and again on Thursday from 3 pm and Friday from 3 pm. Weekends are also a possibility as I would like some assistance to go to the movies or dancing in the evening. There is also scope to do more hours with me when I have holidays from work, when I have a full week free. I could also do any weekday evening for going out, not only weekends.
Personal Interests: My favourite things to do are the cinema, dancing, live music and theatre. I enjoy sharing a meal and coffee with people and going walking. My least favourite thing is sport.
