Care Assistant for a person P/T@ £12.71/hr in SW17 - FTE - £24.8k
Companion / Personal Assistant for a Gentleman with Young Onset Alzheimer’s
We’re looking for a kind, patient, and easy-going companion for Gavin, who is 60 and has young onset Alzheimer’s disease. Gavin was a photographer and is now retired due to his illness. He loves gardening and his cats, and he enjoys a good chat about the news. We’re about to welcome a Cavachon puppy into the family, which we hope will get us all out of the house more and give Gavin a reason to head out to the common each day.
Gavin does not currently require continence care, but this may change in the future.
What the role involves:
- Pottering in the garden with Gavin
- Dog walks, including trips to the common
- Chatting over a cuppa and keeping up with the news
- Helping prepare lunch and making cups of tea
- Light tidying (things tend to wander around the house these days!)
- Giving Gavin’s wife a short, regular break to get out of the house
About you:
- Warm, patient, and good-humoured, with a calm and unhurried manner
- Comfortable around dogs and cats
- Happy to spend time outdoors
- Reliable and discreet
- Experience with dementia is preferred. We’ll happily show you what works for Gavin.
