We are looking for a friendly, outgoing and reliable individual with a love of the outdoors to support a young man in his early thirties to enjoy planned trips and activities. The individual you will be supporting has a diagnosis of Autism and experiences anxiety, particularly in noisy or crowded environments. He enjoys quieter settings such as walks in the woods or on the beach. Trips to the cinema are also a favourite, especially horror and animation films.
As a trusting relationship develops, you will also support him to build confidence in activities such as visiting cafés and shopping for clothes. A good sense of humour and a relaxed, jokey disposition would be ideal, along with an interest in gaming and escape rooms - shared interests that will help you build a strong rapport.
You must be a car driver. Initially, you will support outings by car, with a longer-term goal of helping to build confidence using public transport to increase independence. This is a fixed-term role for 3 months, with the possibility of extension.
If you feel you could make a positive difference to someone’s life, we would love to hear from you.
Further Information: An Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be required for the successful candidate (cost covered by the employer).
