We’re currently looking for an experienced Independent Technical Assessor to support our work in Consignment Based Conformity Assessment (CBCA) and Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI) .
This contract-based role involves assessing whether inspection bodies are operating in line with both national and international standards, ensuring exported goods meet the necessary requirements of importing countries.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a solid background in science, engineering or technology , combined with hands-on experience in inspection and auditing.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess inspection bodies involved in CBCA and PSI activities.
Review procedures relating to:
- Price verification
- Tariff classification
- Currency exchange and financial terms
- Physical inspection of goods
- Evaluate sampling methods and the traceability of documentation.
- Ensure compliance with the IFIA Code of Practice and other relevant standards.
- Review the calibration and correct use of measuring equipment.
- Assess the management and control of seals used for inspected goods.
- Identify practices that could compromise impartiality or integrity.
- Observe and report on the effectiveness of inspection methods.
Essential Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent in a science, engineering, or technology discipline.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Strong understanding of CBCA and PSI inspection activities.
- Knowledge of contract management and sampling procedures.
- Familiarity with the TIC Council Code of Practices for CBCA and PSI (formerly referred to as IFIA) for government-mandated inspections.
- Awareness of basic measurement techniques and calibration processes.
- Understanding of safe working practices during inspections.
- Ability to detect and report any unacceptable practices.
- Knowledge of how seals are managed and applied during inspections.
Experience
Proven experience in Consignment Based Conformity Assessment (CBCA) and Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI) management, with expertise in auditing documented systems and verifying documentation traceability through audit processes.
Training Requirements
- Familiarity with the TIC Council Code of Practices for CBCA and PSI or similar industry standards.
- Observation of at least five pre-shipment inspections .
Desirable
- Membership of a relevant professional institution or Chartered Engineer status.
