Role: Specialist in Carriage of Dangerous Goods & Transportable Pressure Equipment

Contract role

Location: Remote, UK coverage

We are seeking an experienced and knowledgeable professional to join our team as a Technical Assessor for the Carriage of Dangerous Goods and Transportable Pressure Equipment. In this role, you will be responsible for evaluating the conformity of accredited/approved bodies undertaking inspection and verification of dangerous goods tankers and pressure receptacles, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations.

The role involves evaluating the conformity of inspection and verification process and procedures to designated standards, assessment of personnel\’s technical competence and suitability of tank inspection processes ensuring they meet required safety and compliance standards. Due to its complexity, it is unlikely that all competence criteria will be met by one individual, so we welcome applications from specialists with relevant experience.

Key areas of experience:

  • Conducting periodic in-service inspections of road tankers for the carriage of dangerous goods, covering classes 2 to 9, under ADR section 6.7 / 6.8
  • Inspect battery vehicles and MEGCs in line with ADR section 6.8, as well as vacuum-operated waste tanks under ADR section 6.10.
  • Ensure compliance with BS EN 12972:2018 for tanker inspections and VCA guidance on EN 12972:2007.
  • Knowledge of ADR/RID regulations and ISO/IEC 17020:2012 to inspections.
  • Oversee the new construction of road tankers to EN 13094:2015 (design and construction of metallic tanks for the transport of dangerous goods).
  • Experience in designing, manufacturing, and testing battery vehicles and MEGCs to BS EN 13807:2017.

Further expertise:

  • Expert knowledge of inspecting tankers for dangerous goods carriage, including all tanker classes as per ADR section 6.7 / 6.8
  • Familiarity with inspection and testing of transportable pressure equipment receptacles to ADR section 6.2, and applicable standards:
  • BS EN ISO 11623:2015 for composite cylinders.
  • ISO 10460:2018 for welded aluminium-alloy, carbon, and stainless-steel gas cylinders.
  • BS EN 18119:2018 for seamless aluminium alloy and steel cylinders.
  • BS EN 20475 for cylinder bundles and BS EN 22343 for valves.
  • BS EN ISO 23088 for pressure drums.
  • Experience with the manufacture of cylinders in accordance with ADR section 6.2.2.1.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of BS EN standards related to transportable pressure equipment and tankers.
  • Thorough understanding of ADR/RID regulations for the safe transportation of dangerous goods.
  • Familiarity with ISO/IEC 17020:2012 for inspection bodies.
