Role: Coke and Refinery (Technical Assessor)

Location: Remote, UK coverage
We are looking for a Technical Assessor with experience of manufacturing coke oven products.
Playing a pivotal role, our external Technical Assessors are a crucial part of the UKAS assessment process, providing UKAS with the essential expertise required to deliver robust assessments in Coke and Refinery.
Becoming a technical assessor for UKAS provides a unique and rewarding opportunity for industry professionals to expand your skills and enhance your career alongside your current role.
Key skills:
- Manufacture of coke oven products, production of coke and semi-coke, production of pitch and pitch coke, production of oven gas, production of crude coal and lignite tars and agglomeration of coke.
- Appreciation/understanding of the manufacturing of coke and refined petroleum products and the relevant environmental aspects and impact.
- Production of motor fuel, gasoline, kerosene etc.
- Production of fuel: light, medium and heavy fuel oil, refinery gases such as ethane, propane, butane etc.
- Manufacture of oil-based products for the petrochemical industry and for the manufacture of road coverings
- manufacture of petroleum briquettes
- blending of biofuels.
To gain an on-site appreciation of one or more of:
- Carbonisation processes.
- Coke oven gas production process
- Distillation process – Tar from lignite
- Mineral oil production processes.
General understanding of:
- Relevant industry standards
- Environmental legislation and environmental aspects and impacts
- Coke production process
- Carbonisation processes.
- Coke oven gas production and coke oven by-products
- Crude coal production processes
- Distillation process – Tar from lignite
- Mineral oil production process and safety aspects
To be successful in this position it is required to have someone with a degree in organic chemistry but extensive experience in the field will also be considered.
