Job overview

UK Fire Door Training is expanding its delivery of fire risk assessment and passive fire protection training across the UK.

We are looking for an experienced Fire Risk Assessment and Fire Stopping Trainer/Assessor to deliver high-quality training, assessment and learner support across our growing course portfolio.

The successful candidate will have substantial, current fire risk assessment experience and the technical knowledge required to deliver our Level 3 Foundation and Level 4 Intermediate Fire Risk Assessment programmes. Experience of practical fire stopping installation, inspection or surveying is strongly desirable.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced fire safety professional to move into a senior training role with a competitive salary, excellent development opportunities and the chance to help shape our expanding training provision.

Main responsibilities

  • Deliver face-to-face Fire Risk Assessment training, including Level 3 Foundation and Level 4 Intermediate programmes.
  • Support future Level 5 Fire Risk Assessment delivery where qualifications and competence allow.
  • Deliver practical Fire Stopping Installation and Fire Stopping Inspection/Survey training where competent and approved.
  • Assess learners' knowledge and practical competence against relevant qualification and centre requirements.
  • Mark learner work accurately and provide clear, constructive feedback.
  • Support learners between course delivery and completion of their assessments.
  • Maintain accurate training, assessment and learner-progress records.
  • Review and improve presentations, activities, assessment resources and practical exercises.
  • Ensure training materials remain aligned with current legislation, statutory guidance, recognised standards and industry best practice.
  • Participate in tutor and assessor standardisation, continuing professional development and awarding-organisation activities.
  • Work constructively with internal quality assurance staff and respond to sampling and standardisation actions.
  • Help establish consistent FRA and fire stopping delivery across new UKFDT training centres.
  • Deliver occasional courses at client premises throughout the UK.

Essential experience and skills

  • Substantial current experience of carrying out fire risk assessments and producing clear, suitable and sufficient reports.
  • A relevant Level 4 fire risk assessment or fire safety qualification, or demonstrably equivalent competence.
  • Strong knowledge of fire safety legislation and guidance applicable in England, including the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
  • A practical understanding of means of escape, fire doors, compartmentation, fire stopping, alarm systems, emergency lighting and fire safety management.
  • The confidence and communication skills required to deliver technical training to learners with different levels of experience.
  • Strong written English, accurate record-keeping skills and competent use of Microsoft Office or equivalent systems.
  • A full UK driving licence.
  • Willingness to travel to other training centres and client locations, including occasional overnight stays.

Desirable qualifications and experience

  • Practical experience in fire stopping installation, inspection, surveying or supervision.
  • A recognised teaching qualification, such as the Level 3 Award in Education and Training, or equivalent delivery experience.
  • A recognised assessor qualification, such as CAVA, or willingness to achieve this within an agreed period.
  • A Level 5 fire risk assessment, fire engineering or equivalent advanced fire safety qualification.
  • Professional membership of IFE, IFSM or another relevant professional body.
  • Experience delivering or assessing regulated qualifications within an approved training centre.
  • Experience in fire doors, compartmentation or wider passive fire protection.

Package and benefits

  • Salary of £50,000-£55,000, depending on experience, qualifications and breadth of competence.
  • 22 days' annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • Workplace pension.
  • Approved business travel, accommodation and subsistence expenses.
  • Support with relevant continuing professional development and maintaining industry competence.
  • Opportunity to play a key role in the continued growth of UK Fire Door Training.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate strong technical competence in fire risk assessment. Candidates with additional practical experience in fire stopping installation and inspection will be particularly welcomed.
