We are looking for a talented and motivated Backend Software Engineer to join our Engineering team in Wigan. Working within an autonomous, agile environment, you will help design, build, and maintain the backend systems that power our products and enable the business to deliver its longâterm objectives. This is an excellent opportunity for a technology professional who enjoys solving complex problems, improving efficiency through automation, and working in a fastâmoving, collaborative environment.
What You'll Be Doing
- Work within a selfâorganising agile squad aligned to key business goals, reporting into the Software Engineering Manager.
- Contribute across the full product lifecycle, from early insight and design through development, testing, integration, deployment, and ongoing operation.
- Design and develop backend software using established architecture and best practices, producing clear, robust, and wellâtested code.
- Collaborate closely with engineers from other disciplines, Principal Engineers, and Product Managers to deliver solutions that complement wider platform goals and enhance the overall consumer experience.
- Take an active role in improving and extending existing systems, creating new services to support data collection and analysis, and delivering new functionality to users on a frequent basis.
- Embrace testâdriven development and automated testing, participate fully in agile planning and delivery processes, and troubleshoot issues as they arise to ensure the reliability and performance of our platforms.
- Stay up to date with emerging technologies and apply them where they add value.
What We Are Looking For
- Proven commercial experience in .NET development and a strong understanding of the frameworks, tools, and best practices that support highâquality backend systems.
- Comfortable working in agile environments and applying modern product development lifecycle practices such as prototyping, testing, and iterative delivery.
- Experience writing and applying algorithms with an understanding of performance and time complexity.
- Able to pick up new technologies quickly and apply them productively.
- Strong communication skills, along with a proactive, "canâdo" attitude and a willingness to challenge existing approaches in pursuit of better solutions.
- A passion for continuous learning and personal development.
- Any experience in fullâstack development, including technologies such as React, Swift, or Kotlin, would be an advantage.
