Technical & Buildings Manager for Richmond Theatre, a 126‑year‑old venue hosting a variety of performances. Reports to the Theatre Director and leads the technical, maintenance and Stage Door teams, working closely with Heads of Department, Risk Management, Property & Facilities and central technical operations.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, implementation and ongoing improvement of a cohesive, cost‑effective technical and maintenance structure for the venue.
- Act as the primary point of contact for producers, tour managers, contractors and visiting companies, ensuring high‑standard customer service.
- Develop and enforce safety, health and welfare policies in line with Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999 and ATGE policies.
- Participate in the senior management team, contributing to strategic planning and business success.
- Manage building and technical budgets, procurement and capital investment projects, ensuring cost control and timely delivery.
- Plan and approve technical and maintenance rosters, scheduling staff efficiently and maintaining operational readiness.
- Provide technical support to productions and events, ensuring all technical needs are met economically and within contractual terms.
- Lead risk assessment development for building, plant and technical operations.
- Maintain accurate records, drawings, operating manuals and maintenance plans in line with group policies.
- Recruit, train, appraise and develop the technical, maintenance and Stage Door teams, ensuring compliance with ATGE HR policies.
- Coordinate timesheets and personnel records with the Venue Administrator, ensuring correct processing.
- Communicate effectively with staff, productions, contractors and senior management, holding regular team meetings.
Qualifications and Experience
- IOSH Certificate, First Aid, Fire Marshal Risk qualifications.
- Working at Height, Harness & Rescue and Pyrotechnics qualifications.
- Extensive experience managing technical teams in live performance venues.
- Experience in staff management, leadership, training and supervision.
- Experience in safety legislation and development of a safety culture.
- Experience in building and facilities management.
- Knowledge of ETC Eos, counterweight flying systems, sound systems (Allen & Heath) and operation.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency with Word, Excel, Outlook, Microsoft Teams and SharePoint.
- Ability to work under pressure and autonomously.
- Ability to develop, manage and apply systems and procedures.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and varying hours.
Desirable Qualifications
- NEBOSH Certificate.
- Management/leadership qualification.
- Knowledge of BS7909.
- PPE & Rigging equipment inspection and IPAF qualification.
- Knowledge of employment law, financial management and budget planning.
- Overview of operational security systems.
- Understanding of network and infrastructure, CAD proficiency.
