Physiotherapist (Paralympic Specialist Service – North) in Sheffield

The UK Sports Institute have an exciting opportunity for a part-time Physiotherapist to work as part of our new Paralympic Specialist Services provision. The UKSI delivers outstanding support that enables sports and athletes to excel.

This role is comprised of a 0.6 FTE (22.15 hours per week) permanent position and 0.4 FTE (14.45 hours per week) fixed term (maternity cover). While predominantly based in Sheffield, the role will require travel within the North region, e.g. Manchester (0.5 days per week) but flexibility may be required based on service need.

This role is part of the newly formed UKSI Paralympic Specialist Service. It offers an exciting opportunity to join a team of specialist multi-disciplinary practitioners working collaboratively to support Paralympic World Class Programmes (WCP). The role will work predominantly with the GB Para Badminton WCP as a Named Lead Physiotherapist (maternity cover) and will also provide support to other Paralympic WCPs in Sheffield (GB Para Table Tennis) and the North Region (GB Wheelchair Basketball).

This role will provide specialised physiotherapy support services to Paralympic WCP athletes contributing to a positive performance impact. The post holder will work collaboratively within and across interdisciplinary support teams and coaching teams to optimise athlete health and maximise availability for performance. The role may require attendance at national and international camps and competitions with potential for approximately 21 days per year of international travel.

The Performance Lifestyle Practitioner plays a vital role in delivering personalised, high-quality support that enables athletes to thrive both in sport and in life beyond it. Working across multiple sports and daily training environments within the Loughborough region, this role will involve direct engagement with athletes to support them in balancing the demands of high‑performance sport, while also contributing to their holistic development and wellbeing.

Aligned with the UKSI Performance Lifestyle Delivery Framework and Principles, and the wider athlete support strategy, the PL Practitioner contributes to the holistic support and development of athletes across key Performance Lifestyle pillars, including athlete wellbeing, career development, educational guidance, financial health, and transitions. The role will also lead the effective onboarding of athletes and key stakeholders into the hub-based Performance Lifestyle provision, ensuring consistent, integrated, and athlete‑centred support across the high‑performance system.
