We are looking to recruit a Shift Fire Officer to join our site team at our Montrose manufacturing site. The Shift Fire Officers advise on legal and other requirements affecting Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) at the site. Their purpose is to ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, and internal Engineering and EHS standards in order to ensure safe manufacture of active pharmaceutical ingredients.

Job Purpose

The Shift Fire Officer leads emergency response activities (on a 24/7 shift pattern) and works closely with site teams, security, operations and external emergency services. We value calm decision-making, practical skills, and clear communication. This role offers hands-on leadership, visible impact on site safety, and opportunities to grow technical and leadership skills while helping GSK unite science, technology and talent to get ahead of disease together.

Key Responsibilities (include, But Not Limited To)

  • Lead factory fire crews during incidents, ensuring crew safety and effective coordination with site controllers and external authorities.
  • Respond to fires, chemical spills and first aid incidents and security events to reduce harm and restore safe conditions.
  • Maintain and test fire alarm, emergency radio and firefighting equipment to keep readiness at all times.
  • Carry out fire safety checks and patrols, and ensure escape routes and fire points are unobstructed.
  • Provide practical advice on hot work permits, confined space entries and fire alarm isolations before and during manufacturing, maintenance and project activities.
  • Deliver and record training, drills and exercises for fire crews and site first responders emergency response team.

Shift Pattern

24/7 shift pattern (12-hour shifts running throughout the week - includes night shifts & weekend work)

Basic Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a firefighting role in a public fire service or industrial setting.
  • Strong knowledge of firefighting techniques (including breathing apparatus use and incident command).
  • Practical experience responding to emergency incidents and supporting multi-agency coordination.
  • Familiarity with fire alarm systems, emergency communications and basic equipment maintenance.
  • Commitment to high safety standards and maintaining 24/7 operational readiness.
