The Estates Department overseeing a prominent scientific facility plays a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless operation and optimal functioning of the expansive infrastructure. Tasked with managing the facility’s physical and digital assets, the department meticulously maintains and upgrades laboratories, research spaces, and cutting-edge equipment to support the institution’s scientific endeavours.

As a CAD and Records Assistant, you will play a crucial role in the Estates Department, contributing to the efficient management of records and the transition from traditional paper-based systems to streamlined electronic databases. Your primary responsibility will involve overseeing existing records related to various building services, facilitating the organization of information, and supporting the Estates Team in the transition to a more sustainable and accessible digital format. About Summer Placements at STFC

STFC’s incredibly diverse range of placements allow you to work alongside world leading engineers, scientists, and technicians in highly collaborative environments. Whichever you choose, you will become a critical member of the team in which you will be exposed to exciting projects and challenges from the start. You will also be supported every step of the way by our dedicated Early Careers Development Team, * Assist Digital Assets Manager in producing CAD record drawings and other related documents.

  • Assist in maintaining a logical and efficient foldering structure for both digital and physical records.

  • Streamline data retrieval processes to enhance the team’s access to critical information.

  • Systematically sort and categorize old drawings on existing Building Records SharePoint site, contributing to the development of an organized drawing database.

  • Work collaboratively with the Estates Team to provide support in various administrative and organizational tasks related to records and CAD management.

  • Assist in producing 3D scans of site using specialist equipment (training will be provided)., UKRI seeks to ensure it creates and maintains a system of openness, fairness and inclusion – a collaborative, trusted environment, which is attractive to and accessible to everyone who is interested in developing their career with us.

  • You are in full time education at university, and will be returning to university/your studies once the summer placement has concluded

  • You have the right to live and work in the UK for the duration of the placement

  • Familiar with using AutoCAD software

  • Familiar with latest Microsoft Collaborative tools (SharePoint, Teams)

  • Ability to read technical drawings related to building services and general building information

  • Ability to facilitate the conversion of traditional paper records into electronic formats
