This is a full-time position working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 09:00 till 17:00. The purpose of this role is to be responsible for supervising the processing of samples and overseeing the team working in this area, ensuring that all samples are completed efficiently and testing timelines are met.

  • Undertaking all tasks within the main laboratory appropriate to the level of training given to you by team leaders and management.
  • Registration, preparation and analysis of samples as required in accordance with standards of quality and the requirements of ISO 17025.
  • Ensure daily productivity targets are achieved through effective workflow and line management.
  • Train others to a high standard and maintain competency in all tasks within the area to help support team members, when required, in order to maintain a high standard turnaround time.
  • Ensure all team members are performing duties/tests to the specified quality and technical standards.
  • Ensure cleanliness, hygiene, and general housekeeping remain at a high standard.
  • Ensure line start up, workplace organisation, and end of shift duties are completed effectively.
  • Track stock levels to prevent shortages so that productivity through the shift is maintained.
  • Communicate any operational issues immediately and directly to line manager and ensure that any equipment faults or failures are highlighted immediately.
  • Maintain accurate operational, technical, health & safety, and staffing records.
  • Work with the team to ensure waste is disposed of correctly and support initiatives to reduce carbon footprint.
  • Ensure personal protective clothing equipment is worn in accordance with the Health & Safety policy.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and encourage innovation within the team.
  • Understand and apply 5S and lean production principles.
  • Knowledge of Laboratory Quality Manual in order to ensure compliance at all times with the policies, procedures and associated documents which are referred to in the manual.
  • Assist through operating best practice in order to meet the requirements of the UKAS accreditation standard and other client specific requirements.
  • Investigate non-conforming work and support corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism with clients and communications.
  • Any other reasonable tasks as delegated by the line manager.
  • Act as a deputy to the Operations Manager in respective areas.

Qualifications:

  • Maths, English, Chemistry or Biology at GCSE grade C or above, or equivalent.
  • Previous experience of leading/managing a team.
  • Good laboratory skills and practices.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Proficient in using IT systems.
  • Enthusiasm, energy and a driven outlook.
  • Excellent communication skills and a team player.
  • Excellent organisational skills and strong attention to detail.
