The predicted salary is between 40500 - 49500 £ per year.
This SHE Auditor will report to the SHE Reporting and Governance Manager and will work within the Health and Safety Department based in any of the regional offices such as London, Crawley, Borehamwood, Maidstone, Colchester or Bury St Edmunds. You will be a permanent employee.
You will attract a salary of £68,144 and a bonus of 3%. Close Date: 24/08/2026.

Job Purpose:
You will work across the whole of the UK Power Networks and UK Power Networks Services providing independent assurance on the internal control environment of our Safety Health and Environment (SHE) management system. Through audit we will work with the business to identify areas of improvement in the SHE integrated management system which will in turn drive improvement on our safety performance and efficiency throughout the business.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Plan, lead and deliver audit assignments to the highest quality.
- Experience with safety health and environment controls.
- Interpret new and existing H&S legislation or codes of practice to ensure compliance with legal and moral obligations.
- Apply knowledge and expertise towards identifying opportunities for improvements and driving continuous improvement.
- Experience in communicating risks and constructive approach in agreeing management actions to address control weaknesses.
- Provide guidance to the business on process risk and analysis arising from audits.
- Provide CDM auditing services for projects across UK Power Networks.
- Assist managers in ensuring compliance with safety health and environment legal and moral obligations.
- Identify areas of good working practice and support the wider implementation.
- Ensure accurate records to prove compliance to external standards.
Nature and Scope:
The Health and Safety Audit team are responsible for the development and delivery of the Health and Safety Audit plan across UK Power Networks new or revised safety procedures to both employees and contractors. The post holder will be required to provide day to day ad-hoc safety advice on Health Safety and Environmental management systems and compliance as requested as well as project manage the development of new or revision of existing procedures, contribute to risk management reviews and incident investigations, and undertake compliance activities.
To work within the Central H&S Team and engage with all Directorates and external bodies, providing effective '3rd line of defence' advice to the Directorates for all non-electrical H&S matters as required. This position does not offer blended working. The post holder may be based at any of the locations listed, however they will be expected to travel to all business sites and work locations when required.
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
Essential:
- Hold a Lead Auditor qualification in either ISO45001 or ISO 14001.
- Hold as a minimum the National Examination Board of Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) Certificate or equivalent.
- Relevant experience auditing SHE management systems in the utility sector or construction.
- Have a good understanding and experience of the safety management systems and safety legislation relevant to utility sector activities.
- Be a great communicator and team player – you can demonstrate how you have previously worked to improve Health Safety and Environment Management systems.
- Hold a full valid driving licence.
Desirable:
- Have an inquisitive mindset – in this role you need to consistently question why we do it this way, always be thinking about how we can improve, what if this goes wrong?
- Have good communication, presentation, planning and decision-making skills and the ability to work with IT software packages such as Microsoft Office.
