This craft attendant linesperson will report to the field staff supervisor and will work within network operations based in our Eastbourne & Tunbridge Wells region. You will be a permanent employee in our UK Power Networks team, required to assist the Overhead linesperson in faults repairs, network alterations and new connection work. This includes assisting in the restoration of LV supplies as part of fault working and system emergencies by observing procedures and ensuring correct use of PPE and safe working practices.
Responsibilities
- Observe all work being carried out on live LV apparatus with exposed conductors.
- Ensure safe use of equipment following health & safety procedures and network standards, and that colleagues on site are wearing the relevant PPE (in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974).
- Use 'Do Not Disturb' signs and other deterrents to keep the public away from live electrical work.
- Set up equipment for the linesperson, including preparation of work, layout of tools and equipment, and equipping the vehicle for jobs.
- Assist the linesperson when they perform work on live 230/400v apparatus, conductors or equipment while observing appropriate safety procedures.
- Use appropriate IT equipment such as an electronic job issuing system.
- Dig, help, and excavate holes safely and collaborate with external contractors, managers and supervisors to ensure health and safety for employees, the public and visitors.
Employees will ensure they understand the health and safety risks involved in their work activities and apply the controls needed to manage those risks to acceptable levels. They must also be aware that for some craft and operational roles that involve work at height or use of fall arrest devices, the upper weight limit is 116 kg due to the maximum safe working load of the safety equipment used.
Qualifications & Requirements
- At least GCSE level or equivalent.
- Sound knowledge of electrical distribution.
- Understanding of the Electricity at Work Act, including the ability to read electrical diagrams and maps and points of isolation/earthing.
- Completion of New Roads & Streetworks Act (NRSWA) Units 1, 2 and 3.
- Initial training will be conducted at a training centre for policy and health & safety basics; on‑job learning will follow.
- Full UK driving licence required.
- Medical and DBS reference checks will be required before starting.

- Salary: £34,726 per annum plus benefits and a bonus of 3%.
