Job Overview

This rapid response technician will report to the field staff supervisor and work within Network Operations based in the southern area office, operating across Crawley, Lewes and surrounding areas.

The role involves fast initial response to ‘no supply’ calls and assisting in the restoration of LV and HV supplies on the UK Power Networks distribution system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide rapid and safe response to emergency calls as directed by the local office.
  • Update incident status verbally and via mobile electronic handheld devices following procedures.
  • Identify fault conditions, carry out initial fault location, and coordinate repairs with local staff.
  • Investigate voltage complaints and install test equipment as required.
  • Restore HV and LV supplies, conduct testing, and switch on the network, interpreting test results.
  • Use appropriate IT equipment including TDR, tough pad, and FFE devices.
  • Work as part of a team covering a 24‑hour shift rota pattern.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build informal relationships with colleagues and customers.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Minimum of C&G 232 or equivalent; ideally an ONC/HNC or equivalent in Electrical Engineering.
  • Authorized for HV and LV switching and fuse replacement; metering skills preferred.
  • Strong safety focus and ability to handle unplanned hazardous situations.
  • Full Clean UK Driving Licence.
  • Willingness to undertake standby duties.
  • Located in or able to travel to the area promptly, or willing to relocate.

  • Customer focus and ability to develop good rapport with customers.
  • High safety awareness.
  • Prepared to work in 24‑hour shift pattern and stand‑by duties.

Annual salary of £43,736 plus 3% bonus.
