The predicted salary is between 50000 - 60000 £ per year.

This HV Control Commissioning Engineer will report to the Network Control Performance and Training Manager and will work within Network Operations based in our Fore Hamlet office. You will be a permanent employee. You will attract a salary of £54,166 per annum and a bonus of 3%. Close Date: 28th December 2025.

Job Purpose: The role of HV Control Commissioning Engineer is to support the safe and efficient commissioning of new RTUs and Switchgear to allow the further enhancement of the UK Power Networks high voltage network. The new telecontrol facilities you will bring to the control system will have a positive impact on safety and performance which aligns with UK Power Networks vision and values. In addition, you will add value to the control team. You will do this by assisting in switching remote-control circuit breakers to confidence settings. You will also set up the network correctly for live tree trimming. Furthermore, you will undertake other duties within your authorisation level.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Limited switching to safely commission new HV remote control facilities.
  • Ensure RTU commissioning is completed and to the correct engineering and safety standards.
  • Maintain and SCADA issues or other defects that may occur when commissioning and ensure they are correctly flagged and chase rectification.
  • Safely load and modify SCADA for all sites.
  • Provide accurate figures on commissioning numbers.
  • Provide commissioning and automation services to the Control Systems and Automation team to support new Control System functionality, Quality of Supply and Improvement plans.
  • Liaison with Control and Diagram Administration teams to ensure accurate representation of the control network diagram.
  • Liaison with the Control Systems and Automation team to ensure they are compliant with their standards.
  • Liaison with operational field staff and asset management staff to ensure the accuracy of data sources with a view to improvement.
  • Provide a central contact for commissioning between Network Control, Control Systems and Automation and Field-based Engineers.
  • To work with and help area engineers rectify RTU TLR issues and switch according to test the functionality.
  • Undertake further studies and training to move towards full Control Engineer authorisation.

Nature and scope: The HV Control Commissioning Engineer reports to a Network Manager within the Network Control Team. The Network Control team aim to provide the best in the safe and efficient running of the HV and EHV networks for UK Power Networks. The team goal is to improve safety, performance, innovation, data accuracy and visibility with a view to reduce CI's and CML's whilst maximising return on investment. You will participate in the dynamic and efficient daily operation of the Network Control team. They will need to learn technology skills to undertake the commissioning of SCADA equipment. They will also need to have knowledge of HV systems to become authorised as a minimum, a limited Control Engineer (switching only).

Qualifications: You will understand the distribution network and will demonstrate a commitment towards safety and meeting business targets. Experience working within commercial electrical engineering or for a distribution network operator. Minimum of City and Guilds 2304 Electrical & Electronic Engineering (or equivalent). An understanding of the distribution network especially at HV. Awareness of the Distribution Safety Rules. Understanding of the network control function. Background in working on distribution networks is useful. Experience with Ofgem Guaranteed and Overall Standards and the Regulatory framework.
