If you are driven to build your career at the heart of the energy sector, UK Power Networks invites you to apply for the role of Trainee Designer, Junior Designer, or Project Designer at our St Neots office. We are looking for ambitious individuals who are eager to contribute to a team shaping the future of electricity connections.

In this role, you will report to the Lead Design Engineer and work closely with a Connections team. Your primary responsibilities will be producing designs, quotations, and work packs for new and altered electricity connections for customers within our Licence area. You will directly liaise with customers to understand their requirements, develop customised connection solutions, and ensure your designs meet stringent Licence Conditions, Guaranteed Standards, and Safety Standards. Time management and efficiency are essential, as every project is customer-driven, demanding strong organisational skills and the ability to plan and manage resources effectively. Throughout, you will need to uphold a strong focus on customer service, balancing the need for safety and security of supply while meeting customer expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Report to the Lead Design Engineer and work closely with the Connections team.
  • Produce designs, quotations, and work packs for new and altered electricity connections for customers within the Licence area.
  • Liaise with customers to understand requirements, develop customised connection solutions, and ensure designs meet Licence Conditions, Guaranteed Standards, and Safety Standards.
  • Demonstrate time management and efficiency; plan and manage resources for customer-driven projects.
  • Uphold a strong focus on customer service while balancing safety and security of supply to meet customer expectations.

  • In-depth understanding of how electricity distribution networks are designed and operated.
  • Drive to deliver excellent customer service, show initiative, work collaboratively as a team player, and be willing to take ownership of work by contributing to targets and supporting team success.
  • Ability to make balanced, intelligent judgments and maintain an enthusiastic, customer-focused approach while upholding essential safety objectives.
