Bury St Edmunds | Permanent | £94,904 + Car + 3% Bonus | Hybrid After 6 Months
Are you an experienced engineering leader ready to shape the future of the UK's electrical infrastructure? Join us as a Design Lead supporting a major portfolio of OHL and cable diversion projects across our Connections programme.
In this pivotal role, you'll guide multidisciplinary design teams—from civil and electrical to cable and OHL specialists—delivering high-quality designs that underpin critical infrastructure projects for stakeholders including National Grid, TfL, Network Rail, major developers, and connection customers.
What You'll Do
- Lead, inspire and develop a team of designers and technicians.
- Oversee full design lifecycle—from concept and scope through to technical completion and as-built records.
- Ensure designs meet UK Power Networks standards, CDM 2015 obligations, and project objectives across cost, quality and time.
- Manage internal and external design resources, including performance targets, outsourcing decisions and design reviews.
- Act as the technical authority for your portfolio, providing specialist guidance to senior managers and project stakeholders.
- Drive value engineering and design assurance processes to support regulatory outperformance.
What We're Looking For
- Strong background in engineering construction and design coordination.
- Experience in OHL (up to 132kV), cable systems (up to 132kV), and tower design.
- Proven team leadership within a large capital programme environment.
- Chartered Engineer (or working toward) with a relevant technical degree.
- Excellent decision-making, analytical capability and a strong safety ethos.
- Understanding of CDM regulations and quality assurance processes.
- Confident using Microsoft applications and design-related software (training can be provided).
