About us

Strategic Command (StratCom) is part of the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and is one of 4 Front Line Commands (FLCs) the others being Navy, Air and Army. The Strategic Command Commercial Team are responsible for working closely with their military and civilian colleagues across the UK to deliver innovative commercial solutions to Defence requirements. We play a vital role in supporting Defence by contracting a diverse portfolio of requirements ranging in value and complexity from long term commitments in specialist capability areas to low value short term support contracts from a wide and varied supply-base.

About the role

The Strategic Command Commercial Team is comprised of around 100 qualified commercial personnel across several UK and overseas locations who place around 200 contracts a year and manage £4.5bn worth of contracts.

Commercial are offering a unique opportunity to work in a diverse, interesting environment delivering essential procurement and contract management activities including:

  • Working as a procurement lead and as part of cross-functional teams to implement premarket engagement.
  • Support to the approvals process and Business Case process (Requisition, financial and commercial approval, as well as MOD/Cabinet Office approvals if required).
  • Using e-sourcing/ e-tendering tools and techniques.
  • Overseeing market analysis, understanding market models and market shaping.
  • Working with key stakeholders to develop a clear and agreed view of business requirements, and supporting business units in articulating their commercial requirements.
  • Understanding the requirement, the marketplace and potential solutions, providing advice and challenging where necessary.
  • Advising and providing professional guidance throughout the sourcing process, considering and evaluating a range of sourcing models.

£44,590 – Commercial Market Skills Allowance (MSA) of £1,500 per annum once essential criteria for this allowance is met.

A Civil Service Pension with an employer contribution of 28.97%

Location

This position can be based out of MOD Corsham, SN13 9GB, DefAc Shrivenham, SN6 8LA, MOD Abbey Wood, BS34 8JH, RAF Wyton, PE28 2EA.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance.
