The Security Services Group (SSG) is a specialist business unit delivering high assurance security solutions across the MOD and wider Government Estate. With over 260 highly skilled experts based in the UK, Germany, Cyprus, and Gibraltar, SSG designs, installs, and maintains advanced security systems to protect Defence operations, national security assets, and critical government infrastructure.

As the MOD’s strategic technical authority, we provide cutting-edge security solutions, from intruder detection and video surveillance to access control and physical security. Security Services Group Overseas provides the full range of SSG services to MOD and wider government estates overseas, including support to Permanent Joint Operating Bases, overseas training locations, and overseas operational areas. Support ranges across the project lifecycle from initial security advice to design, installation, maintenance, and decommissioning of SSG equipment.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

The Overseas Support Manager is a new role within the organisation and reflects the increase in the use of SSG overseas. The principal function of the role is to enable the delivery of overseas support through the scheduling, deploying, and recovery of personnel, equipment, and supplies overseas. Working to the Overseas Team Leader, you will be helping to provide the full suite of SSG services overseas whilst providing assurance to the Overseas Operations Manager on all aspects of deployments for both personnel and equipment.

The multi-faceted role requires an individual who can plan and execute the movement of material overseas and who is able to schedule resources in support of activities, whilst also overseeing the ongoing competency for personnel travelling and working overseas and thus meeting all deployment requirements. As a new role, the individual must be able to work with the overseas team to generate new processes to ensure effective scheduling, preparation, deployment, and recovery of personnel and material.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Control and movement of all equipment and supplies to overseas locations, including the use of MOD purple gate and commercial courier services.
  • Production and submission of all associated customs and carriage documentation for EU and non-EU locations.
  • Scheduling and arrangement of overseas maintenance visits in unmanned overseas locations through use of SSG CASH system.
  • Collaboration with overseas Operations Manager and Team leader to undertake overseas resource scheduling across project lifecycle.
  • Management of mandatory and functional training completion for all overseas based personnel and UK based personnel requiring SAFE, SAFE+, and pre-deployment training.
  • Willing to undertake the physical movement of material between logistic hubs if required in support of short notice requirements.
  • End to end management of all overseas deployments of SSG personnel to include: Completion of flight and ferry bookings; Placement of medical coverage for deploying personnel; Assurance of all aspects of pre-deployment training for specific locations; Completion of visitor documentation specific to each overseas location, including diplomatic clearance as required; Co-ordination with SSG suppliers for approval as Contractors on deployed operations (CONDO); Completion of overseas risk management submissions as part of MOD Support to Operations (S2O) Policy including Permanent Joint Headquarters (PJHQ) Overseas Security Advisory Team (OSAT).

Location Requirements

Requirements of the role include the control and movement of equipment and supplies which will typically pass through the SSG hub locations of Shrivenham, Swindon or MOD Sealand, Chester. You will be expected to travel to each location as well as periodically move stores to MOD and commercial logistics hubs. Other responsibilities can be undertaken through a blend of remote and office-based working at one of SSG's regional locations at the discretion of the line manager.

Person specification

Essential Skills/Experience:

  • Experience in the planning and recording of mandatory and functional training completion by personnel within a team.
  • Experience with the range of MS office applications.

Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • Experience in aspects of personnel and material deployment as part of operations and training overseas.
  • Familiarity with MOD Purple Gate.
  • Experience in scheduling personnel and resource requirements in support of operational delivery.
  • Experience of managing the ordering and movement of equipment and supplies within the UK and overseas.
  • Experience of working with CASH or a similar Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) type system.

The post does not offer relocation expenses. External recruits who join the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period. Please Note: Expenses incurred for travel to interviews will not be reimbursed.
