At Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S), we supply and maintain vital equipment and services for the Royal Navy, British Army, and Royal Air Force. We deliver essential defence programmes to keep our military at the top of their game and our nation safe.

This role requires you to have lived in the UK for the last 5 years and obtain Security Check (SC) security clearance, which must be obtained without caveats. The process can be lengthy, and offers are conditional until clearance is granted.

Join the British Forces Postal Office (BFPO) at the Defence Mail Centre Glasgow. We will provide all necessary training to develop your skills. As a Postal and Mail Operative, you will handle armed forces’ mail securely, accurately, and methodically. Tasks include data input, sorting, processing mail, and vehicle loading, involving physical and desk-based work, often standing for long periods. This is a site-based role, Monday to Friday, 0700 – 1530, with opportunities for progression within the team and organisation.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain mail handling procedures per BFPO and Royal Mail standards.
  • Ensure workplace safety for yourself and colleagues.
  • Create and maintain mail dispatch schedules using IT and manual systems.
  • Deliver mail timely and securely as a driver.
  • Verify and trace mail using computer and local systems.
  • Use manual handling equipment, lifting up to 11kg unaided and 30kg with assistance.
  • Adhere to all security requirements and carry issued ID at work.
  • Take reasonable care for health and safety and promote environmental conservation.

Person Specification:

Essential criteria include:

  • Knowledge of IT and Microsoft Office, data entry experience.
  • Full UK Manual Driving Licence, Cat B, max 6 penalty points.
  • Recent experience in a physically demanding role.
  • Ability to work under pressure, independently and in a team.
  • Strong customer focus and stakeholder engagement skills.
