The Ministry of Defence Police (MDP) is a civilian police force that protects the UK's Defence community, capabilities and assets. Our Force consists of armed officers, specialist policing roles and professional civilian staff who work seamlessly with the Ministry of Defence, US Visiting Forces, and other policing and security partners. With stations across the United Kingdom, our presence extends from nuclear facilities to military sites and government buildings. Unlike territorial police forces, our jurisdiction and expertise are focused on protecting the critical infrastructure that underpins national security.
The role of an Intelligence Development Officer involves identifying, collecting, researching, and evaluating information from various sources to build a comprehensive picture of threats, risks, and criminal activity. You will need to be able to develop relationships with others to collect information and exchange intelligence. You will operate across multiple levels of response, working within strategic, tactical and operational areas of the business. This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job Description:
- Work in support of the MDP Crime Command Research and Development and Analytical Teams in the preparation of the 4 analytical products as outlined in NIM producing intelligence reports and charts to tight deadlines.
- Perform MDP Fixed Intelligence Management Unit (FIMU) functions (intelligence assessment, indexing, research & development) ensuring the accuracy, integrity and security of data.
- Process and maintain intelligence and related records to national standards on Force intelligence systems.
- Development, management and collation of multiple data sets.
- Respond to telephone enquiries from internal and external agencies exercising appropriate discretion when releasing information.
- Liaise with colleagues, both regionally and nationally, in relation to best practice and systems, procedures and awareness of new research methods and systems.
- Conduct research and development of crime, threat and financial intelligence, including research over the internet, environmental scanning, internal system searching or liaison with other partner agencies for intelligence collection purposes.
- Complete all mandatory training for role (internal/external).
- The post may include occasional working away from home duty station.
- Undertake other research type duties such as support to major enquiries as required by Crime Command Head of Intelligence.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments.
The post does not offer relocation expenses.
External recruits who join the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period.
