The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants. Within that, the Army Top Level Budget (TLB) employs around 12,000 MOD Civil Servants located at over 300 locations. Ours is a diverse workforce, with roles ranging from trainers, human resources, teachers, and psychologists to storekeepers, financiers, project and programme managers, and policy secretariat staff. This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

We are seeking a dedicated Higher Executive Officer (HEO) Enterprise Information Architect to join our team, reporting directly to the Senior Executive Officer (SEO) Enterprise Information Architect within the Army Information Design Authority (DA). Collaboration with other enterprise domain architects and functional stakeholders is key, as you help integrate information architecture into the organisation in a standard, repeatable and reusable manner.

The Info DA is the mechanism by which Director Information and the Army Chief Technology Officer can operate as the digital functional leader for the British Army. The organisation and information capability-portfolio requires a digital, data, information and architectural governance capability to support and control design operational outcomes and warfighting effectiveness, future proofing the Army's processes, information and technology footprint for maximum operational effectiveness across organisational boundaries in a digital and data age.

As the HEO Enterprise Information Architect, you will be required to:

  • Document current and target state models accurately and to the level of detail required
  • Assure architecture models ensuring alignment to Defence data and information policies
  • Support senior architects in guiding the organisation to make appropriate business, technology and data decisions by recommending reuse, sustainability and scalability, to achieve value for money and reduce risk
  • Explain complex problems using clear language and artefacts
  • Develop your knowledge of frameworks, practice and principles of enterprise architecture
  • Assist with the maintenance of the enterprise architecture Repository

This role serves as a foundational position for developing expertise in enterprise information architecture.

Essential:

  • Being well versed in communication and confident in explaining complex concepts and technologies to others
  • Awareness of architectural frameworks, principles and techniques
  • Experience in working in an Information, Data or Digital Discipline

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of ArchiMate and BPMN
  • Experience of using SPARX EA, ARCHI and Prolaborate

Alongside your salary of £36,530, the Ministry of Defence contributes £10,582 towards you being a member of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme. The post does not offer relocation expenses. External recruits who join the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period.
