Job Summary
Defence Children Services (DCS) is a Defence delivery organization, subordinated under Army Regional Command. HQ DCS is UK based at Trenchard Lines, Upavon, with forward-deployed staff worldwide. DCS is responsible for the education and care of children of Service and Defence-entitled personnel in MOD schools and settings, providing advice and guidance on education for service families in the UK and globally.
The Specialist Support Service (DCS-SSS) comprises teams responsible for activities supporting the education and care of children of Service and other entitled personnel. Led by the Assistant Head (Specialist Support Service), these teams work with children, families, and schools in DCS settings, focusing on safeguarding, overseas education, SEN, home education, welfare, psychology, speech and language, and career education, among others. All efforts aim to meet the needs of Service children and their families, alleviating mobility challenges.
The Defence Allegation Designated Officer (DADO) Service manages allegations processes in line with UK legislation and best practices, including overseas. It also centrally records safeguarding allegations related to those working or volunteering with children on behalf of Defence.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job Description
The key responsibilities include:
- Providing initial information, advice, and guidance about allegation management to Commands and other service users across Defence.
- Maintaining clear records of all data, inquiries, or concerns related to UK-based allegations, in accordance with Defence policy and GDPR/DPA regulations.
- Maintaining a register of allegations against individuals working or volunteering with those under 18 that meet UK LADO thresholds.
- Collaborating with partner agencies to promote best safeguarding practices, ensuring policies and procedures are current and effectively implemented.
- Building and maintaining relationships with UK safeguarding partners and Commands responsible for under-18s.
- Supporting and advising military training establishments and colleges on low-level concerns and allegations below UK LADO thresholds.
- Leading network development with local authorities and the National LADO Network to bring best practices to Defence.
- Attending allegation management strategy meetings as needed to ensure effective oversight.
- Developing strong multi-agency partnerships for effective safeguarding.
- Undertaking other duties appropriate to the role as required.
Person Specification
The candidate must have:
- Knowledge of legislation, policies, and procedures related to allegation management and child protection.
- Skills to work under pressure, providing advice on risk management for allegations involving under-18s.
- Experience in delivering quality services, strategic decision-making, and managing conflicts among stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and manage caseloads efficiently.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, with confidence to challenge and hold others to account.
- Proficiency in IT tools such as Word and Excel.
Qualifications
2 A levels, NVQ3/4, or equivalent, or substantial MOD experience at AO grade or above with relevant training.
