The Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Lecturer in Psychology to join our academic team. You will contribute to high‑quality teaching and learning across foundation year and undergraduate programmes, supporting students to develop strong theoretical understanding, research skills, and ethical awareness within the discipline of psychology. This role offers an opportunity to teach across core and applied psychological areas, contribute to curriculum development, and support student research and academic progression within a quality‑assured higher education environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high‑quality teaching across Foundation Year and undergraduate levels in core and applied areas of psychology
  • Design and deliver engaging lectures, seminars, workshops, and practical sessions using blended and student‑centred approaches
  • Develop and maintain up‑to‑date teaching materials on the Virtual Learning Environment, informed by current research and evidence‑based practice
  • Facilitate active learning through case studies, group activities, laboratory work, and real‑world application of psychological theory
  • Design, set, assess, and moderate a range of assessment types in line with module and programme requirements
  • Provide timely, fair, and constructive feedback to support student learning and development
  • Participate in internal moderation, standardisation, and external examiner processes to ensure academic standards
  • Supervise undergraduate research projects and dissertations, supporting methodology, analysis, and academic writing
  • Promote ethical practice in teaching and research, ensuring alignment with professional standards
  • Monitor and support student engagement, attendance, progression, and achievement
  • Contribute to module leadership, curriculum development, and programme review activities
  • Participate in assessment boards, academic committees, and quality assurance processes
  • Work collaboratively with awarding body partners to meet academic and partnership requirements
  • Engage in ongoing professional and scholarly development to support research‑informed teaching

About You

Essential

  • Postgraduate qualification in Psychology (Master’s minimum)
  • First degree in Psychology or a closely related subject
  • Subject expertise in one or more core areas such as biological, cognitive, social, developmental psychology, or research methods
  • Experience teaching in higher education at undergraduate level
  • Experience designing, assessing, and moderating academic assessments
  • Ability to supervise undergraduate research projects and dissertations
  • Understanding of ethical principles in psychological research and practice
  • Experience supporting student engagement and progression within diverse cohorts
  • Strong communication, organisational, and academic skills
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and maintaining up‑to‑date subject knowledge

Desirable

  • Doctoral‑level qualification in a relevant psychological discipline
  • Evidence of engagement in research, scholarship, or professional psychological practice
  • Experience working within quality assurance frameworks and external examiner processes
  • Awareness of professional body requirements such as the British Psychological Society (BPS)
