The Role

We are seeking a proactive and organised Librarian to manage and develop the Sunderland Campus library. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting students and staff by providing access to high-quality academic resources, promoting digital learning tools, and ensuring a welcoming and effective study environment. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to student success by supporting research, information literacy, and academic development within a dynamic higher education setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the library, including issuing and returning resources, cataloguing materials, and maintaining an organised environment
  • Assist students and staff in locating and accessing both physical and digital resources
  • Develop, maintain, and review the library’s academic resource collection in line with curriculum needs
  • Ensure accurate and standardised records within the Library Management System
  • Provide guidance and training on research methods, referencing, and use of library systems
  • Promote the use of digital resources, including e-books, online databases, and academic platforms
  • Deliver workshops, group sessions, and one-to-one support for students
  • Maintain a quiet, inclusive, and welcoming learning environment
  • Ensure compliance with copyright regulations and promote ethical use of information
  • Collaborate with academic staff to support teaching, learning, and curriculum development
  • Monitor library usage and contribute to continuous improvement of services

About You

Essential

  • Degree in Library Science, Information Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Experience working in a library or similar environment (preferably within education)
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in library systems and digital cataloguing tools
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office
  • Ability to support students with research and academic resources
  • Attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate records
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality customer service

  • Experience working in a higher education or academic library
