The Quality and Compliance Officer will coordinate and support the effective delivery of compliance, risk, and regulatory activities across the college. The role involves maintaining oversight of compliance systems and reporting, supporting institutional adherence to statutory and regulatory frameworks (including OfS requirements), and contributing to business continuity, risk management, and audit functions. This position requires strong organisational, analytical, and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively across departments in a matrix environment to promote best practice and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Compliance and Risk Coordination
    • Support the development, implementation, and monitoring of compliance frameworks and policies.
    • Maintain oversight records and evidence to demonstrate compliance with University and statutory requirements.
    • Support OfS and regulatory submissions by coordinating input, ensuring data accuracy, and monitoring timelines.
    • Assist with internal audits and reviews to identify compliance gaps and areas for improvement.
  • Governance
    • Support the good governance and committee structure by serving the committee(s).
    • Develop and manage SharePoint and other services for storing, tracking, and reporting compliance documentation.
    • Produce clear summaries and reports highlighting key operational themes and findings.
  • Project and Systems Support
    • Apply project management methodologies to plan, track, and deliver compliance-related initiatives.
    • Support system improvements and process mapping to enhance compliance efficiency and integration.
  • Collaboration and Communication
    • Work collaboratively with academic and professional services teams to embed a culture of compliance.
    • Work with colleagues to execute project plans and meet deadlines.
    • Communicate complex regulatory and technical information clearly to non-specialist audiences.
    • Represent the department in internal and external meetings as required.
    • Work with a diverse staff and student body respectfully and with integrity.
  • Professional Development and Continuous Improvement
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Office for Students regulations, compliance, regulatory, and risk management developments in higher education.
    • Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of compliance tools, guidance materials, and reporting mechanisms.
    • Support other departments quality, compliance, and business functions as necessary.

Person Specification:

  • Qualifications
    • Degree (2:1 or above) or equivalent relevant experience.
    • Qualification or training in risk management, compliance, or project management (e.g., PRINCE2, ISO 31000, OfS compliance or relevant experience).
  • Knowledge and Understanding
    • Understanding of compliance, risk management, and business continuity principles.
    • Familiarity with OfS or other UK higher education regulatory frameworks.
    • Knowledge of project management methodologies (e.g., PRINCE2, Agile, Waterfall).
    • Understanding of quality assurance or governance in a university or public sector context.
    • Awareness of compliance systems and data management tools (e.g., SharePoint, Power BI, Tribal EBS, Excel).
    • Knowledge of compliance operations within a matrix or multi-stakeholder organisation.
  • Experience
    • Experience working collaboratively in a team-based or matrix environment.
    • Experience in a higher education or regulated public sector setting.
    • Experience managing administrative or reporting processes with attention to accuracy and deadlines.
    • Experience supporting or coordinating compliance or audit-related activities.
    • Experience developing and maintaining structured records or documentation systems.
    • Experience of managing or supporting projects across multiple stakeholders and priorities.
