The Role

We are seeking a reliable, hardworking, and proactive Cleaner to join our Facilities team at UKMC Derby. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness across the campus, supporting facilities operations, providing occasional reception cover, and assisting with general administrative duties. This is a varied role that requires excellent attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to creating a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for staff, students, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout offices, meeting rooms, kitchens, washrooms, reception areas, and communal spaces.
  • Carry out routine cleaning, sanitising, and waste disposal in line with health and safety standards.
  • Replenish cleaning materials, consumables, kitchen supplies, and washroom stock.
  • Conduct routine facility inspections and report maintenance issues or health and safety concerns.
  • Support the setup and clearing of meeting rooms, training rooms, and events.
  • Monitor and maintain cleaning equipment and ensure adequate stock levels.
  • Liaise with contractors and service providers regarding facilities-related matters.
  • Assist with office moves, workplace improvements, and facilities projects as required.

Reception and Administrative Support

  • Provide reception cover during breaks, annual leave, and periods of absence.
  • Welcome visitors, contractors, and clients in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Answer and direct incoming telephone calls and respond to general enquiries.
  • Receive, sort, and distribute incoming mail, deliveries, and courier items.
  • Provide general administrative support, including filing, scanning, photocopying, data entry, and document preparation.
  • Maintain office records and assist with updating administrative systems.
  • Order and monitor office stationery, cleaning supplies, and other workplace consumables.
  • Support the day-to-day operational activities of the organisation.

Health, Safety and Compliance

  • Support compliance with Health & Safety and COSHH regulations.
  • Report accidents, incidents, hazards, and maintenance defects promptly.
  • Ensure the safe use, handling, and storage of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across departments to ensure the smooth operation of the workplace.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties commensurate with the role as requested by management.

About You

Essential

  • Previous experience in a cleaning, housekeeping, janitorial, facilities, or workplace support role.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
  • Good understanding of cleaning products, equipment, and safe working practices.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety and COSHH requirements.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliable, punctual, and flexible approach to work.
  • Ability to undertake the physical demands of the role.

Desirable

  • Experience working within an educational, office, or commercial environment.
  • Previous reception or customer service experience.
  • COSHH or Health & Safety training.
  • First Aid qualification.
  • Experience supporting facilities management activities.
