Starting Salary: £37,892, which includes a base salary of £35,134 and a concessionary payment of £2,758. The role: As a Russian Language Specialist, you’ll use your linguistic expertise to translate and extract key information for our operational teams. You’ll work with a range of foreign language materials, some of which may be technical or specialised in nature. This role goes far beyond translation and transcription, requiring a deep understanding of language, cultural nuances, and socio‑cultural and political structures. By drawing on this expertise, you’ll produce considered, informed conclusions and reports that accurately inform live operations. Your advanced language skills will play a central role in shaping decisions across our organisation. About you: You don’t need any previous experience or a formal qualification in Russian to apply, but you should be a proficient user of the language to at least CEFR C1 level across all disciplines: reading, writing, speaking, and listening. This should be complemented by a deep understanding of the cultural context associated with the language, including aspects such as culture, history, religion, and politics. You should be fluent in English and able to translate Russian‑language materials into accurate and idiomatic English. As part of our recruitment process, we’ll assess your proficiency in understanding written and spoken Russian. If you have skills in other modern foreign languages, we encourage you to highlight them, as we’re always interested in hearing about additional language capabilities. At C1 level or higher, you’re able to: understand a wide range of longer and more demanding texts and conversations; express ideas fluently without excessive searching for words; use the language effectively in social, academic, or professional situations; produce well‑structured, detailed texts on complex topics.
