We are looking for an Executive Officer for the Lord Speaker's Office in the House of Lords. In this exciting position you will provide a high level of support to the Lord Speaker and his office. This is a fantastic opportunity for candidates who want to focus on providing administrative support to the panel of Deputy Speakers and office management support to the Lord Speaker's Office as a whole. If you're looking for a role where you will interact regularly with individual Members and senior officials, we would love to hear from you.
You'll be responsible for:
- Acting as the main point of contact for the Deputy Speakers, including arranging weekly rotas and arranging meetings, including drafting agendas.
- Managing the flow of documents including correspondence and invoices, commissioning briefing from other teams and offices where required, and following up requests as necessary.
- Maintaining good awareness of the work of the House and its Administration.
- Answering general queries from Lords members and other stakeholders.
- Undertaking general office management tasks and other duties to support the work of the Lord Speaker alongside the Private Office.

- Collaboration and Teamwork: Effective team working skills, with an ability to share best practice and to show flexibility towards covering the work of the Private Office.
- Building Working Relationships: Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain good working relationships, both orally and in writing, with a broad range of people at all levels within the Administration.
- Problem Solving and Attention to detail: Excellent attention to detail with proven administrative skills. Experience of using initiative to solve problems.
- Professionalism, Tact and Discretion: Excellent judgement and the ability to use tact and discretion at all times.
- Prioritisation and Delivering at Pace: The ability to prioritise own workload and experience of working under pressure and on one's own initiative to tight deadlines.
- Knowledge and experience of IT systems: Excellent IT skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Teams and Excel.
