Help Transform Government with Technology. We're the Automation and Innovation portfolio, a team that turns technological potential into reality. We rapidly prototype, incubate and deliver solutions using cutting‐edge and emerging technologies, and we've already delivered millions in efficiency savings across the Home Office by automating routine tasks so colleagues can focus on complex, human‐centred work.

Now we're looking for Business Architects who are ready to do things differently. You'll operate at the forefront of public sector innovation, partnering with multidisciplinary teams to drive tangible outcomes that strengthen public services and national security. AI, automation, emerging platforms to solve real operational problems, if it can make government smarter and more resilient, we want to explore it.

This role is for you if:

  • You can cut through complexity to visualise how technology can help solve real operational problems and where it can't.
  • You thrive at the intersection of strategy and delivery.
  • You're an excellent communicator, who learns quickly and brings ideas and opportunities to life, building consensus across diverse stakeholders.
  • You're energised by navigating a complex business and technical landscape, not daunted by it.

You'll need strong engagement and stakeholder management experience, alongside a solid understanding of business architecture and how it helps drive delivery of well designed, strategically aligned technology. Above all, you'll help deliver services that are more intuitive, integrated and resilient benefiting the public and advancing the Home Office's mission.

Real impact. Cutting‐edge tech. Work that matters.

What you will do:

  • Develop and maintain business architecture artefacts (e.g., capability models, value streams) that clarify complex issues and guide change initiatives.
  • Influence portfolio/programme delivery, shaping priorities and aligning solutions with strategic objectives.
  • Collaborate with technical architects, ensuring alignment between business needs and technology roadmaps.
  • Lead or support workshops on organisational design, capturing insights that inform strategy, solution development, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage and update a central knowledgebase of standards, tools, and best practices, promoting consistency across teams.
  • Mentor colleagues, sharing business architecture principles and methods to build internal capability.

What you will bring (Essential Skills):

  • Business Architecture Frameworks: Proficiency in recognised standards (e.g., Bizbok) to model capabilities, value streams, and operating models, ensuring clarity and consistency in deliverables.
  • Strategic Alignment: Ability to bridge business and IT perspectives, collaborating across departments to translate strategic objectives into cohesive plans and solutions.
  • Organisational Change & Delivery: Experience guiding transformation initiatives, risk assessment, and investment decisions, using structured approaches that drive adoption and stakeholder buy‐in.
  • Analytical Thinking: Skilled at breaking down complex issues, spotting patterns or dependencies, and developing evidence‐based recommendations that inform executive‐level decisions.
  • Stakeholder Management & Communication: Aptitude for presenting nuanced information to varied audiences, fostering consensus, and managing conflicting priorities or constraints.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Demonstrable success in coaching and developing junior colleagues, nurturing collaborative practices, and embedding business architecture best practices across teams.

Exceptional pension: Employer contribution of 28.97%. Generous leave: 25 days annual leave (rising to 30 with service), 8 public holidays, and 1 day for the King's Birthday. Flexible working: Options include full‐time, part‐time, compressed hours, job sharing, and a hybrid model (minimum 60% on‐site). Learning and development: Access to training, technical accreditations, and funded qualifications (subject to approval). Recognition and inclusion: A culture that champions diversity, enhanced parental leave schemes, annual bonuses, and recognition awards.
