Overview

This is a key development role. The trainee Human Factors Health and Safety Specialist will be based in the Health and Safety Team and will report to a Human Factors Health and Safety Specialist. With support from the Lead Human Factors Health and Safety Specialist and Human Factors Health and Safety Specialist(s), the trainee will take a proactive role in managing their own development and compiling suitable evidence (logbook and examples of Human Factors work) which will allow them to successfully apply for full Chartered membership of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (CIEHF). The trainee will help implement a Human Factors strategy aligned with HSE\'s Operational Delivery Guide: Inspecting Human Factors at COMAH establishments. (Available at: https://www.hse.gov.uk/comah/assets/docs/hf-delivery-guide.pdf). Note: Although the delivery guide is aimed at chemical and petrochemical industries, it has been successfully adapted and applied to other sectors like mining and biological agents. The trainee will be eligible for promotion to the Human Factors Health and Safety Specialist (Grade 7) role having gained full Chartership status and passed an internal assessment.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing and maintaining a logbook of evidence and examples of work to enable successful application for full Chartered membership of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors.
  • Undertake Health and Safety Management and Biological Agents training and learning using UKHSA\'s extensive in-house training and development programme and resources.
  • To maintain or establish links with Human Factor professionals in other organisations and/or relevant professional bodies (e.g. CIEHF).
  • Provide Human Factors support (appropriate to their level of competence) to:
  • Health and safety (Human Factors) inspection and auditing activities
  • Human Factors risk assessments (Safety Critical Task Analysis)
  • Design and build of new high containment microbiology facilities
  • Human Factors training and awareness raising activities
  • Development of Human Factors policy, procedures and guidance
  • Incident, dangerous occurrence and near miss investigation
  • Research and policy initiatives which involve Human Factors
  • Carrying out any other tasks and duties as may reasonably be required by the Corporate Health and Safety Team
