We are looking for a Human Factors Health and Safety Specialist. You will be based in the Corporate Health and Safety Team and will report to the Lead Human Factors Health and Safety Specialist.

You will work with the Corporate Health and Safety Team and other colleagues across the organization in helping to implement a Human Factors Strategy aligned with HSE’s Human Factors Delivery Guide (available at: hf-delivery-guide.pdf (hse.gov.uk)) aimed at managing Human Factors health and safety risks, especially in relation to work undertaken on biological agents.

Building on your significant experience of managing Human Factors risks in a major hazards and/or biological agents context, you will have opportunity to develop your competence further with the aim of becoming a Subject Matter Expert in several of the Human Factors topics identified in UKHSA’s Human Factors Strategy (and operationalised for a biological agents context) comprising:

  • Managing human performance (including Human Factors risk assessments)

  • Human factors integration in design (for new build projects and safety critical equipment)

  • Safety critical communications

  • Safety critical procedures

  • Competence management

  • Management of organisational change

  • Management of shiftwork and fatigue

  • Staffing levels and workload

  • Physical ergonomics, Main Duties:1) Providing Human Factors support, in both lead and supporting roles, to:o Health and safety inspection and auditing activitieso Human Factors risk assessments (Safety Critical Task Analysis)o Production of Human Factors Integration Plans for new build projectso Carrying out Human Factors assessments on Safety Critical Equipmento Human Factors training and awareness raising activities, including the development, production, design and delivery of new Human Factors training courses and materials and providing support to trainee Human Factors specialist(s)o Development of Human Factors policy, procedures and guidanceo Incident, dangerous occurrence and near miss investigation o Research and policy initiatives which involve Human Factors

2)Undertake appropriate Health and Safety Management and Biological Agents training and learning using UKHSA’s extensive in-house training and development programme and resources

3) Continuous Professional Development (CPD): The post holder will be expected to take a pro-active role in managing their own CPD, ensuring that they do all that is required to maintain their Chartered Membership status with the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (CIEHF)

4) To maintain links with Human Factor professionals in other organisations and relevant professional bodies (e.g. CIEHF)

5) Carrying out any other tasks and duties as may reasonably be required by the Corporate Health and Safety Team
