A vacancy has arisen for a full time (12 hr shift pattern) Vessel Traffic Services Officer based in the Tees VTS Centre, Harbour Master’s Office in Middlesborough. The main things our VTSO will be working on are:
- Assisting the Duty Assistant Harbour Master in managing all vessel movements.
- Liaising with key stakeholders, i.e. port services, shipping agents, berth operators, general public and emergency services.
- Operating and interpreting the VTS system, including Radar, AIS, CCTV and communication systems.
- Utilising their experience and skills to make and communicate traffic management decisions to ensure the safety and efficiency of navigation.
We are seeking someone who:
- Is self-motivated and has the ability to work under pressure in a demanding operational environment and effectively as part of a small team.
- Works with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Has excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Holds a GCSE level pass in English or acceptable equivalent such as IELTS Level 7.
- Holds a full UK Driving Licence.
Holders of a marine qualification, i.e. C0103-1 (formerly V-103/1) or a UK recognised Certificate of Competency as a Deck Officer, would be advantageous but not essential.
