Within UKGI, we have undertaken a key advisory role in the most recent high-profile transactions involving government, including the return of NatWest group to the private sector, the acquisition of Royal Mail by IDS, the acquisition of OneWeb and subsequent merger with Eutelsat, the equity raise to fund the construction of Sizewell C nuclear plant and the re-acquisition of the Annington Homes estate. Our advice ranges from supporting companies in distress, responding to major private sector mergers and acquisitions, moving companies into public ownership and commercial negotiations.
About the team: This role works across UKGI’s Financial Instruments and Transactions Advisory Group (FInTAG) as well as UKGI’s Data and Analytics Team. FInTAG is an analytical and advisory function within UKGI that supports government departments and arm’s length bodies. The team provides trusted expert advice, portfolio-level analysis, and transparent reporting to help government better understand and manage its financial assets and liabilities. The Data and Analytics Team plays a central role in enabling data-driven decision making, strengthening organisational insight, and supporting high-profile cross-government programmes across UKGI. The work of the team includes designing and building new tools to support operational priorities and leading digital transformation activities across the organisation.
This role provides dedicated project management capability across FInTAG and direct delivery support to the UKGI Chief Data and Analytics Officer (CDAO). You will be responsible for establishing clear delivery plans, implementing proportionate monitoring and reporting, and providing reliable delivery confidence through grip on progress, risks, issues and dependencies. This role is deliberately delivery-focused and exists to bring structure, pace, and transparency to priority initiatives.
About the Role: You will operate as a senior project manager across several projects that vary in scale and maturity and often involve multiple stakeholders, tight timelines and evolving requirements. You will translate strategic intent into structured, deliverable plans; maintaining grip on delivery; and ensure senior decision-makers have clear, timely and trustworthy management information. You will help embed consistent and proportionate delivery discipline, across the teams you work with, to ensure programmes are effectively governed and progressed.
- Portfolio and Programme Planning
- Develop and maintain integrated delivery plans, with clear milestones, owners and dependencies.
- Break complex objectives into clearly defined projects/workstreams, agreeing scope boundaries and success measures with sponsors and delivery leads, whilst maintaining a pro-active forward look across relevant portfolios.
- Project Delivery and Controls
- Provide end-to-end project management for priority initiatives, from initiation through to delivery and close-out, establishing proportionate delivery controls and monitoring risk.
- Monitoring, Reporting, and Management Information
- Design and implement lightweight but effective monitoring and reporting arrangements for team workplans and portfolios.
- Produce concise, decision-focused updates for senior audiences, including progress against milestones, risks, delivery confidence and critical decision-points.
- Establish and maintain a regular delivery cadence (status reporting, deep dives, forward planning), ensuring it adds value.
- Governance and Assurance
- Support effective decision-making through senior governance forums, helping to ensure decisions are well timed and implications clear.
- Ways of Working and Continuous Improvement
- Promote consistent and proportionate project management discipline across UKGI teams, identifying opportunities to simplify delivery processes and take onboard lessons learnt.
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Work closely with FInTAG members, delivery leads and other UKGI functions to maintain alignment, momentum, and build strong relationships across UKGI.
About You: This role is suited to an experienced project manager, who is comfortable operating across a portfolio of work, engaging actively with senior sponsors, and bringing structure to complex and evolving priorities.
- Essential skills
- Significant experience delivering projects or programmes, including running multiple concurrent projects and competing priorities.
- Experienced in building and maintaining integrated delivery plans.
- Experience applying proportionate governance and reporting (cadence, RAID, actions, decision logs) that supports decision-making and drives delivery.
- Demonstrated ability to manage risks, issues and dependencies, including escalation pathways and mitigation planning.
- Exposure to portfolio management, PMO leadership, or delivery assurance approaches.
- Confidence working with senior stakeholders, translating strategic intent into practical plans and recommendations, with great verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to operate effectively in ambiguity and establish delivery structure where scope and priorities are evolving.
- A recognised project delivery qualification.
- Experience of working in government, an arm’s length body, or other complex public-sector environment.
- Experience supporting delivery in a digital, data or technology-enabled environment.
